Tell us a little about you (i.e. childhood, career, everyday life, family).
Born and raised in Utah, currently living in Richland, Washington. Mom of three adorable kids, oldest daughter is 15, son is 12 and youngest daughter is 8. Wife to an amazing man and father. Some years ago (no one’s counting) I decided that I needed to further my education to support my little family. At the time, I was a single mom struggling to make ends meet. I enrolled at a local community college to pursue my degree in accounting. It was during this time, while trying to balance work, school and being a mommy, that I discovered my passion for planning. I have always been a crafty-type person, I love all things glitter and love spending time doing little crafty …

Professional Readers Box by Brenda Novak

Hello fellow readers I have a treat for your today. I had a chance to chat with Brenda Novak about her Professional Readers Box. It is a box that brings books and goodies right to your door, who can beat that. Check out my chat below:

1. What inspired you to create the Professional Readers Box?
I wanted to do something extra special for my online book group. They're an amazing bunch of bookworms--I adore them--and am always trying to think of something they might enjoy. My daughter, who works for me, suggested the boxes, and they have been so well-received that we've quickly had to gear up to do a lot more than we ever planned.
2. What typically goes in your boxes? And what is the price of the box?
The contents change every month. If I have a release out that month, it includes an autographed copy of my new book. If I don't have a release, I feature a guest author in the group and the box. Many of May's boxes included an autographed copy of Robyn Carr's new book, ANY …

Author Interview and Giveaway with Andrea Barbosa (Ends 5/15)

Hello All,

Today we would like to welcome author Andrea Barbosa to the blog. She is going to chat with us today about herself and her books. Hope you enjoy the interview:

1. What made you want to be an author?

I've loved reading and writing from a very young age. I'd spend hours writing novels and stories when I was a teenager. I guess it's a childhood dream!

2. What inspires your to write your stories?

I'm very motivated by challenges, so oftentimes an idea comes as the result of a challenge, a topic for a submission, or just an idea I may have when I'm driving or daydreaming.

3. Do you have a favorite author?

Definitely not only one but several. Steinbeck, Hemingway, Anais Nin... Joyce Carol Oates, Anne Rice, Umberto Eco. The list can go on and on and it's pretty eclectic!

4. Besides hobbies do you enjoy?

I love to travel and I also enjoy scrapbooking. But with all the reading and writing I have to do, I'm not having a lot of time to do scrapbooks. I love setti…

Author Interview and Giveaway with Melissa McClone (ends 5/3/17)

Good Morning,

We are hear today chatting with Melissa McClone about her Chocolate Shop Series, check out our interview and the prize that she is giving away today on The Simple Things in Life.

1. What made you want to be an author?
I love books. Reading has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I thought about writing a romance novel in high school although being a screenplay writer was more my dream. I don’t know that I ever thought about wanting to be an author per se. When I finally started writing (after reading a story I didn’t like), I just wanted to see if I could finish a book and sell it. I fell in love with writing, and that was it.

2. What inspires you to write your stories?

I get a kernel of an idea and I want to see what happens, but to be honest, writing is my career and our family budget counts on what I make, so that inspires me to write a lot!

3. Do you have a favorite author?

I buy Nelson DeMille’s novels in hardcover so I’d say he’s my favorite!
