Author Interview with Susan Spira

Author interview with Susan Spira

1. What made you want to be a writer?

I'm not sure I had a choice. I think of it as more a natural progression of my life. It was something always on my mind to share my thoughts with others. As a little girl I remember thinking about writing, but never did except in personal letters. It seemed that the world and its pressures to be something else got in the way. One day it hit me, the old now or never reasoning and I pushed myself to press that publish button on my first blog. I double “wham-ied” myself by emailing the link to all my friends explaining that I would be publishing regularly. And so I did and my writing career began. So what made me want to be a writer—the appreciation and knowledge that the shared intimate thoughts in written form connect us all. It is an out pouring of one heart to another.

2. Who is your favorite author?

Danielle Steel, for sure. She has been transporting me to different countries and time periods with great detail for many years. All of her works are easy to read, entertaining, compelling, and hit at my heart. I always know I will enjoy any of her selections and I particularly enjoy the historical facts and scenes she so accurately paints with her words. At one point in my career I traveled quite a bit on planes and she was always my go-to friend to keep me good company away from home. Danielle Steel understands a woman’s heart.

3. What is the name of the last book you read?

The Wisdom of Compassion by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Victor Chan

4. Tell us about yourself in 3 words?

Zany, Heartfelt, Compassionate

5. What is your favorite activity?

Watching the cooking shows on PBS on Saturday while lounging around on my couch blocking out all thoughts of laundry, dishes, and other obligations

6. If your book could be made into a movie? Which actors would you have play the main two characters?

My book is non-fiction so I guess I would have to figure out who would play me. I think I’m a combination of a Tina Fey meets Amy Adams with a little bit of Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt for action!

7. Who is your favorite character in your book?

In my inspirational books the message comes from me. I consider myself as an every woman with similar issues, concerns, and life doings as most women everywhere face.

8. What's in your TBR ( to be read) pile?

Never Say Die The Myth and Marketing of the New Old Age by Susan Jacoby

The Art of Happiness A Handbook for Living by His Holiness The Dalai Lama and Howard C. Cutler, M.D

The Art of Happiness in a Troubled World by His Holiness The Dalai Lama and Howard C. Cutler, M.D.

Thinking About Tomorrow by Susan Crandell

9. What are 3 of your pet peeves?

Hearing the qualifier: for your age; stereotyping; dishonesty

10. What's your favorite ( cats or dogs), ( coffee or tea), and what's your favorite food?

Dog lover. Have a Shih-Tzu named Tinky. In fact, I wrote 3 children’s books about her adventures. She is my rock and I am her baby!

Love coffee in the morning only. Only one cup a day or I’m up all night so I make it a strong French roast. Love my Keurig brewer. Perfect for my one cup a day habit.

Favorite Food. Any type of pasta with tomato sauce. Love it.

Thank you Keisha for this opportunity. Please let me know if there is anything else you need.
It’s a pleasure,
Susan
