Author Interview with Catherine Hemmerling of Romancing his English Rosr

1. What made you want to be a writer?

I have always loved to read. I think voracious readers tend to end up writers. Certainly reader expands one’s imagination. I began making up stories when I was quite young. I used to write parts for my siblings and cousins and we would put on plays for the family. I guess that evolved as I got older.

2. Who is your favorite author?

Number one favorite is Jane Austen. Although there are many that vie with her in the moment, I always go back to her books when there is nothing else new to read.

3. What is the name of the last book you read?

I suppose mine does not count, so I will with JD Robbs, Immortal in Death. mI’m working my way through the series

4. Tell us about yourself in 3 words?

I’d say tall, funny, loyal. Creative, determined, and courteous are the three my future step-daughter came up with. How nice is that?

5. What is your favorite activity?

Wow, tough one. I love to read, but I also like spending time with my family and making things. I guess my all time favorite thing to do is get a backrub from my honey.

6. If your book could be made into a movie? Which actors would you have play the main two characters?

I think Emma Watson would make a great Rose and Jim Sturgess would be Simon.

7. Who is your favorite character in your book?

Sarah is my favorite, but Rose is a close second. They would probably be my best friends if I ever met them in real life.

8. What's in your TBR ( to be read) pile?

Too many to count. I am on the last book in the Wheel of Time series, by Robert Jordan. I have downloaded Faerie, by Delle Jacobs and Crocodile on the Sandbank, by Elizabeth Peters. Those are at the top of my list.

9. What are 3 of your pet peeves?

Tags sticking up on the back of someone’s shirt, people throwing lit cigarettes out car windows, and grammatical errors in advertisements, billboards, etc.

10. What's your favorite ( cats or dogs), ( coffee or tea), and what's your favorite food?

I love all animals, but am truly a cat person. If my only two options are coffee or tea, I choose tea. But I prefer caffeine free diet Dr. Pepper. My all time favorite food is Mexican!

Except:

“Ah, yes...” Simon said haltingly, unable to believe that Lady Lancaster had suggested he dance with Rose. Usually when he poured on his charm, the older ladies did everything in their power to keep the young impressionable girls away from him. Of course, he was engaged to Rose, so perhaps that accounted for the woman’s unusual decision.

Turning to Rose, Simon saw that she too was surprised by the dowager’s recommendation. She also appeared displeased by it. Most young ladies fawned over him and when he asked one to dance, they would practically swoon with delight. But Rose seemed almost disgusted by the idea.

Pride pricked, Simon came to a decision. This dance would be the best Rose had ever experienced—one she would never forget.

Pulling himself up straight and tall, Simon adopted the most sincere mien he could and asked, “Rose, may I have this dance?”

Rose nodded and accepted Simon’s arm and together they walked to the dance floor.

Soon they were moving gracefully around the ballroom floor...in complete silence. Rose was gazing absently over Simon’s shoulder and Simon was trying in vain to come up with something witty and interesting to say.

While deciding to impress Rose enough for her to never again regret having to dance with him, Simon took a moment to get a better look at his betrothed. Something was different about her tonight, but he just couldn’t put his finger on what.

Author Information

Catherine Hemmerling has been a technical writer in the software industry for nearly twenty years and has published many user manuals and technical documentation in that time. She has always had a love of writing fiction but has never pursued publication in that genre until now.

Hopefully it is the beginning of a long new journey with Lady Lancaster and the Garden Society girls. Certainly historical romance (especially the scandalous kind) is more fun than writing technical documents!

This author happily resides in Tehachapi, California (near Bakersfield - home of her Alma-mater!) with her family.

Catherine writes for Entangled Publishing's Scandalous historical line and is thrilled to be part of their family of writers!
