Author Interview with Brenda Novak!!

The Simple Things in Life is so excited to have Brenda Novak stop by and chat:

1. What made you want to be a writer?

I never dreamed I'd be a writer--not until I caught my daycare provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep all day while I worked as a loan officer. Once I found the cough syrup in my baby's bottle and realized what had been going on, I quit my job to stay home, but I had to do something to help out financially. While I was trying to figure out what that could be, I was reading a really good book (A KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR), and remember thinking, "Maybe I could write a book!" LOL

2. Who is your favorite author?

Oh boy! I have so many: Charles Dickens, Charlotte Bronte, Margaret Mitchell, Jane Austin, etc. But my favorite living author who is writing in my genre is Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

3. What is the name of the last book you read?

ROMANCE IS MY DAY JOB by Patience Bloom. Patience is an editor at Harlequin who has written a memoir about her own experience with romance. This book won't be published until February 2014, but I was afforded a sneak peek, and I loved it.

4. Tell us about yourself in 3 words?
Determined, driven, responsible.

5. What is your favorite activity?

Spending time with my family. :-)

6. If your book could be made into a movie? Which actors would you have play the main two characters?

That would depend on which book. INSIDE has been optioned and the script has been written. I could easily picture Jason Statham playing the lead. :-)

7. Who is your favorite character in your book?

In the Whiskey Creek series, it would have to be Dylan Amos. He is a "bad boy" with a soft heart (definitely swoon-worthy <G>).

8. What's in your TBR ( to be read) pile?

SO much! THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS and BEAUTIFUL DISASTER are sitting right on top. I can't wait to find the time to get to them.

9. What are 3 of your pet peeves?

Hmm...three pet peeves. I guess that would be small-minded people who oversimplify and therefore judge others, cruelty to the innocent and people who are so selfish they can't see the needs of those around them? Fortunately, most people are truly wonderful and try to be as kind as I do, so I don't have to run into this very often.

10. What's your favorite ( cats or dogs), ( coffee or tea), and what's your favorite food?

Cats AND dogs--and neither coffee nor tea (like like hot chocolate--I have a sweet tooth!). And my favorite food is a tomato (they can be put with so many things to make delicious meals).

RT READERS' CHOICE WINNER

Sometimes home is the refuge you need—and sometimes it isn't

Adelaide Davies, who's been living in Sacramento, returns to Whiskey Creek, the place she once called home. She's there to take care of her aging grandmother and to help with Gran's restaurant, Just Like Mom's. But Adelaide isn't happy to be back. There are too many people here she'd rather avoid, people who were involved in that terrible June night fifteen years ago.

Ever since the graduation party that changed her life, she's wanted to go to the police and make sure the boys responsible—men now—are punished. But she can't, not without revealing an even darker secret. So it's better to pretend….

Noah Rackham, popular, attractive, successful, is shocked when Adelaide won't have anything to do with him. He has no idea that his very presence reminds her of something she'd rather forget. He only knows that he's finally met a woman he could love.
