Author Interview and Giveaway: Through the Oracles Mist by Aedan Byrnes

Today I had the pleasure of chatting with Aedan,

What made you want to be a writer?

Nothing that I can pinpoint, I think I always have been a writer. I think I’m better than I used to be, but I’ve written as long as I can remember. Seems to me like they go hand in hand, reader and writer, and I thoroughly enjoy both.

Who is your favorite author?

All of them. Writing is the act of pouring out a piece of your soul onto paper and putting it out for people to love or loathe. I don’t have the first idea how to say any are a favorite over the others…those who embrace the challenge of writing and speaking through stories have my undying respect forever.

What is the name of the last book you read?

That’s a large list as I’m always reading something. I did recently read/finish Amber Scott’s Enchanted Moon as a beta for her. It was a magickal tale.

Tell us about yourself in 3 words?

 Thrifty. Grounded. Blessed.

What is your favorite activity?

Anything outdoors. Not sports per se, but outdoor things; hiking, camping, climbing, swimming, canoeing…stuff that gets me out in nature.

If your book could be made into a movie? Which actors would you have play the main two characters?

Sadly, I have no idea who most current people are. I don’t watch television or go to the show but rarely. In my mind, I have seen Jennifer Garner as Cyrenna. I have seen her morph roles on something called Alias which fits well with the premise for Oracle. There was a show quite some time ago with an aussie named Alex O’Loughlin as a vampire who seems to be a good fit for Tynan build wise though the eyes are wrong.

Who is your favorite character in your book?

I don’t think I can choose. There are some I love to write and others who are incredibly difficult to condense into words. One I am getting especially fond of has not been formally introduced, so keep reading…the cast is growing. Warrior’s Watchtower will be out before you know it.

What's in your TBR ( to be read) pile?

SO MUCH…I have been gifted with a book on sacred sites of the ancient world that I’m itching to get into. There is another book on the history of the Mayan and Incan ruins and their relevance to the modern world. A thriller/conspiracy theory tome that a friend of mine just released that I haven’t got in my possession yet, but I want to read. A book on dreaming, one on living off the grid, one on self-sustaining gardening and farming, and then multiple series that I need to catch up on. The pile never diminishes.

What are 3 of your pet peeves?

When I cannot come up with the word I want.
People who rage at reality but do nothing to change it.
The neighbor cutting his grass at 5:30 am Sunday morning every week.

What's your favorite ( cats or dogs), ( coffee or tea), and what's your favorite food? Rhinoceroses.  *chuckles* I like all the animals and have a small zoo of my own to show for it. Coffee, definitely.  Food? I’m not picky. I like veal parmesan though when the cheese is goopy over pasta with sugo.

BLURB:

In the blackest night, with the moon and stars to guide him, she would always be there waiting…

Cyrenna thought she died the day she watched Tynan and his brothers jump through the banishment portal in an act of solidarity with Rigor. Little did she know, it would be the first of many deaths she would experience in her quest to claim his heart. She would surrender not only her immortal soul, but a mortal one repeatedly. Through a deal with the great Oracle, she has multiple mortal lifetimes to change the direction of her future and have a chance with Tynan.

Her journey spans the ages from the GenPei War in Japan and the Silk Road west, to Cromwell, the Three Kingdoms and modern times, bringing her one step closer to forever until she makes a misstep. Then, the burden falls to Tynan. The only thing that is absolute is her fervent hope that he will come, but there’s one big problem.

Through it all, he doesn’t so much as know her name.

Excerpt One:

I am informed that she has been given a choice to stay in his home or return to the teahouse, but as of yet, her decision had not been voiced. I should leave her with Yoritomo. I know I will not stay here long now. He will take great care of those in his household. Remembering her request, I cannot help but wonder what her choice would be. Kicking myself all the while, I explain the situation of how years earlier she had been in my care before the war and that I had contacted Zhawei to teach her. I relay too, her enquiry too about serving one day in my house.

As a Shikken Regent, I would soon have a house to serve. I enquire carefully if her choice can be amended to include my home. As fortune, or misfortune would have it, since we are in Kyoto, a messenger is dispatched to Zhawei for confirmation of my tale. Confirmation comes back the same night. Zhawei herself returns with the messenger to relay the tale and I think to verify that I was in fact the Daimyo she had met years ago. The Yoritomo asks me to accompany him to speak to Michiko.

From the corner, I see her eyes fly wide when he tells her he has to rescind his offer. Only when he goes on to explain that another benefactor has come to light, that it was me, and that Zhawei has confirmed the tale I have told him does she seem to relax. Then she begins to cry. I know little of women. I know less of women’s tears. Unsure what to do, I wait…

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

There is no simple description for Aedan Byrnes. Obsessive, dreamer, reclusive, compulsive, outdoorsman and wordsmith would be among the list if one were started. The displaced Gael lives in the upper Midwest with family between jaunts wherever the road takes him. A frequent traveler, he is as likely to be found rock climbing or spelunking as sitting fireside dreaming or aimlessly floating away.

A lifelong lover of words and writing, he claims a diverse reading appetite and his writing reflects the myriad influences. A self-proclaimed 'reader's writer', he looks for the emotional and the sensory in word combinations, not just the visceral comprehension of phrases in the stories he crafts and his love of all things literary shines through.
