Interview and Book Spotlight with Nancy Gideon writer of Unleashed by Shadows (Book 10) Giveaway
1. What made you want to be a writer?
The voices in my head! Seriously.
I was always dreaming up spin off plotlines for my favorite TV shows and
books and started jotting down fragments in a notebook when I was in grade
school (I probably still have it somewhere!) Those evolved into my own plots
and characters. I write because I can’t
NOT write.
2. Who is your favorite author?
Just ONE?! Dean Koontz is my go-to guy for a fantastic
read. When I travel, one of his books goes with me on the plane. Exceptional plotting and
characterization! Other must reads are
Kresley Cole and J.D. Robb. And I can WAIT until the next installment in Justin
Cronin’s post-apocalyptic vampire series.
3. What is the name of the last book you read?
To escape my paranormal world, I
picked up AFTER MIDNIGHT by author pal, Sarah Grimm. The heroes are in a rock band and the cover
abs . . . well, you get the idea. Great
read. I’m already looking forward to the
second in the Black Phoenix series.
4. Tell us about yourself in 3 words?
Organized, perfectionist,
procrastinator. Yeah, I know. The first helps balance the other two because
they’re always fighting. I’m OCD with
ADD rising
5. What is your favorite activity?
A mini-vacay binge with
Netflix! Now that House of Cards is
done, I have to get my Supernatural fix.
I’m only up to season 8!
6. If your book could be made into a movie? Which actors
would you have play the main two characters?
Squinty-eyed tough guy Jeremy
Renner was always my image of Cale Terriot. He could probably still carry it
off. It’s all in the great guns! I
rarely model my heroines off a real person but rather an ideal. I don’t know.
Who would you cast?
7. Who is your favorite character in your book?
The hero, Cale, my strutty,
tattooed, rock-n-roll prince-now-king.
Fell for him in a big way when he was the hero in PRINCE OF SHADOWS and
had to have him reappear in REMEMBERED BY MOONLIGHT. When he almost stole that book, I knew he had
another story that needed telling. I
love ‘em dark, sassy, tortured and driven. If you get hooked on him in
UNLEASHED BY SHADOWS, there’s more goodness in the backlist! You don’t necessarily have to read them first
but you’ll want to later.
8. What's in your TBR (to be read) pile?
Which pile? The one in my office? The one in my bedroom? The one on my Kindle? Sooooo many to choose
from. I love to read in every genre
which is why I have such clutter. But
next I’ll probably be looking for something non-paranormal. Oooh, just heard Lisa Gardner’s new suspense
came out in paperback. Off to One Click
. . .
9. What are 3 of your pet peeves?
Slow drivers in the passing lane,
slow Internet connection, slow moving lines anywhere. Can you tell I’m a tad impatient?
10. What's your favorite ( cats or dogs), ( coffee or tea),
and what's your favorite food?
Cats (I have two, Scotch and
Stubs-sounds like an ‘80s vice cop series!), coffee from the Keurig at 5:00
a.m. (brain fuel!), and cold pizza for breakfast (from those years in college)
so nothing goes to waste-only TO the waist.

1 from UNLEASHED BY SHADOWS . . .Cale
He feared no man, no foe, no
obstacle or challenge. He’d learned to stand his ground and take it without a
wince while growing up with the most to prove in the House of Terriot. He’d
been schooled beneath the heavy heel and meaty fists of Bram Terriot, bearing
the marks of those lessons scored into his skin and once tender psyche. He
understood intimidation better than he did compassion. Had once indulged in
every savagery Lee now expected from him. Would have become a brutal, heartless
monster walking the same path his father followed had it not been for the two
things that called to his latent decency: The brothers who’d fearlessly stood
beside him and the female brave enough to believe his claims.
He
owed them. He owed his family prosperous lives without fear and subjugation,
where pride wasn’t measured in cruelties. He owed the woman he loved the fulfillment
of promises made by a starry-eyed boy. He owed them a future in which they
bowed to no one and had no reason to expect the worse from one another. And to
achieve those things, all he had to do was right the wrongs of the man who’d
desecrated the crown he now represented
All
. . .With
a weary laugh, Cale closed his eyes.
His
debt. His burden. His to carry and complete alone. No whining about the costs
to body, heart or soul. No crying over what couldn’t be changed, repaid or
repaired. No shirking from sacrifices sure to cost more than he’d ever thought
to wager. The blood on his hands would never come clean. There was no
forgiveness for his sins—the sins of the father now those of the son. He was
lost but he wouldn’t drag those he loved and respected down with him. Not while
he still had strength and breath and opportunity.
He
couldn’t save his people hiding on their mountain top. He couldn’t purge his
guilt without a willingness to surrender his life.
And
he couldn’t protect his mate if he couldn’t provide her with his heir.

2 from UNLEASHED BY SHADOWS . . .Kendra
She’d spend her
entire life cloistered behind protective walls both physical and psychological
in the care of her protective cousins. She’d been an object of pity, of
well-meaning devotion that smothered more than it sheltered, of terrorizing
manipulation being dangled as a prize in a battle for a crown. She’d never
known emotion stronger than her fear until a fierce, claiming kiss on a moonlit
night woke her to passion. She’d never known independence until she clasped a
dangerous prince between her knees on her first wild motorcycle ride down a
mountainside. She’d never realized her own strength until a hoarsely whispered,
“Don’t let me fall” demanded it of her.
The timid girl clinging
to the protection of others had evolved into a woman eager to embrace all the
world offered, beginning with an impulsive trip to a dangerous city to support
her prince now king.
If Brigit
MacCreedy could see her now
Since bonding, she’d felt driven by
an almost ferocious need to provide whatever her mate needed be it comfort,
support, or the one thing he desperately desired that she’d yet to supply. A
child to cement their relationship and his legacy.
